Celebrating 60 and 70 years
Since 1956, we have been able to do what we love – travel and create memories with our guests. We have seen children take their first swims, friends discover new adventures and couples celebrate love in magical places.
It is our guests who have made us the proud company we are today. Generation after generation, they have shared their experiences and inspired us to always be better.
History
- Ving's first charter trip was by bus to Italy, the year was 1956. The first group trips by air takes off 1957.
- November 11 1956, the founder of Spies Rejser, Simon Spies, places his first advertisement in Berlingske Tidende and Politiken. This date is considered Spies Rejser's birthday. On February 7th 1957, the first 26 Spies guests set off for Mallorca.
- in 1959, Spies began flying its guests to Rhodes, Mallorca and Costa Brava.
- The forerunners of our own airline, Scanair and Conair, began flying Nordic travelers to more southerly latitudes and thanks to charter flights, almost anyone can now travel abroad in 1961.
- Tjäreborg was founded in the small village Tjäreborg in Denmark 1952, by the pastor Eilif Krogager. In 1966 they opened in Finland.
- in 1962 Club 33 Youth Travel starts, offering trips for people between the ages of 18 and 33. In the first year, 3,000 young people travel with the club.
- In 1965 it is difficult to find hotels that suit Swedish travelers. Vingresor decides to build its own apartment hotels and the Sunwing concept sees the light of day. Sunwing gets its first hotel in Gran Canaria, Nueva Suecia, 1967.
Did you know that…
- In 1969 Vingresor/Club 33 launches the MiniClub for children.
- In 1976 our beloved mascot Lollo say daylight for the first time, but she was then only seen as a drawing. It was not until 1990 that she first appeared as a live mascot. That same year, Bernie joined her, marking the beginning of a true success story.
- 1989 we became Scandinavian Leisure Group
- 1994 British Airtours buys Scandinavian Leisure Group from SAS
- 2001 The company changes its name to MyTravel Northern Europe
- 2007 The parent company becomes Thomas Cook Northern Europe
- In 2007 our first adult concept, Sunprime was launched, 2011 came OBC for families
- 2019 Thomas Cook Group went bankrupt and the Nordic part of the business got new owners and got the name Nordic Leisure Travel Group. It was also then Sunclass Airlines got it's name.
- In January 2026 we launched our lates concept, LiveEz for adults only.
