Celebration NLTG

Celebrating 60 and 70 years

Since 1956, we have been able to do what we love – to travel and create memories with our guests. We have watched children take their first swims, seen friends discover new adventures and had couples celebrate love in magical places.

It is our guests who have made us the proud company we are today. Generation after generation, they have shared their experiences and inspired us to always be better.

  • Ving's first charter trip was by bus to Italy, the year was 1956. The first group trip by air takes off in 1957.
  • November 11th, 1956; the founder of Spies Rejser, Simon Spies, places his first advertisement in Berlingske Tidende and Politiken. This date is considered to be the birthday of Spies Rejser. On February 7th, 1957, the first 26 Spies guests set off for Mallorca.
  • In 1959, Spies began flying its guests to Rhodes, Mallorca and Costa Brava.
  • The forerunners of our own airline, Scanair and Conair, began flying Nordic travellers to more southern latitudes, and thanks to charter flights, almost anyone can now travel abroad in 1961.
  • Tjäreborg was founded in the small village of Tjäreborg in Denmark in 1952, by the pastor Eilif Krogager. In 1966 they opened in Finland.
  • In 1962 Club 33 Youth Travel starts, offering trips for people between the ages of 18 and 33. In the first year, 3,000 young people travel with the club.
  • In 1965 it is difficult to find hotels that suit Swedish travellers. Vingresor decides to build its own apartment hotels and the Sunwing concept sees the light of day. Sunwing opens its first hotel in Gran Canaria, Nueva Suecia, 1967.
  • In 1969 Vingresor/Club 33 launches the MiniClub for children.
  • In 1976 our beloved mascot Lollo saw the light of day for the first time, but she was then only seen as a drawing. It was not until 1990 that she first appeared as a live mascot. That same year, Bernie joined her, marking the beginning of a true success story.
  • In 1989 we became Scandinavian Leisure Group.
  • In 1994 British Airtours buys Scandinavian Leisure Group from SAS.
  • In 2001 the company changes its name to MyTravel Northern Europe.
  • In 2007 the parent company becomes Thomas Cook Northern Europe.
  • In 2007 our first adult concept, Sunprime was launched, and in 2011 OBC for families.
  • In 2019 Thomas Cook Group went bankrupt and the Nordic part of the business was acquired by new owners and rebranded as Nordic Leisure Travel Group. The airline was also renamed, to Sunclass Airlines.
  • In January 2026 we launched our latest concept, LiveEz for adults only.
